SUMMARY: Event Picnic Point Fall Cleanup
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Join members of the Olympic Fly Fishers of Edmonds and the local community as we continue to restore and improve the marine habitat at Picnic Point Beach.

Representatives from the Snohomish County Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be on site, along with Picnic Point Forest Stewards.

Volunteers will focus on habitat work this time around in preparation for planting later this fall or early winter. This will likely include the ongoing removal of any blackberry and ivy that’s grown back since our cleanup this spring. We will also move compost piles to make room for planting and spread dead ivy and blackberry onto exposed soil as mulch.

We’ll continue to remove invasive weeds to improve native plant habitats in the beach area. Other tasks may include the creation of survival rings around trees covered by ivy, and the building of additional on-site compost piles.

A healthy, pest-free wooded beach will cool down stream temperatures, provide habitat for birds and fish, and slow down erosion. It’s been a tremendous year for pink salmon along Picnic Point, and we want to give them every advantage possible.

This event is open to the public. All ages and levels of ability are welcome.

Please join us as we work to restore one of our area’s most vital salmon runs.
