McCollum Park - MLK Day of Service …01/14/2023

Activities

MLK day of service is officially on Monday but we're going to get an early start! We'll be pulling English ivy which is a colonizing weed that can compete with other native plants and take over forests. We'll also check on the new plants we planted at the Healthy Forest Day!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is the only federally-recognized Day of Service, and was declared in 1994 as "a day on, not a day off". On this day, we remember Dr. King’s legacy of service, and reflect on his and our actions for social progress. Dr. King not only championed civil rights, but he also inspired the environmental justice movement through his concern for the urban environment.

Everyone deserves access to healthy greenspaces. This is why the work that we do at McCollum, and across our local parks is important. We are not just building healthy forests, but also healthy communities and striving towards environmental justice and equity. So when you join us this Saturday, keep in mind how you are caring for your community and keeping alive Dr. King’s legacy of service!
